Sobre el césped estaban Joseba Etxeberria, Santiago Ezquerro, Andoni Iraola, Aritz Aduriz (en su primera etapa), Carlos Gurpegui o Asier del Horno, con Javier Clemente primero y Félix Sarriugarte después en el banquillo. Una camiseta asociada al sufrimiento, a la resistencia y a esa identidad del Athletic que no negocia ni cuando el viento viene en contra.
