La elástica blaugrana de 1983–84, con franjas anchas y cuello clásico, está unida para siempre a Maradona en su etapa más turbulenta y brillante en el Barça. Fue su segunda temporada completa tras la hepatitis y, sobre todo, la del clímax y la ruptura.
En el campo, Maradona dejó destellos inolvidables junto a jugadores como Bernd Schuster, Víctor Muñoz, Marcos Alonso, Urbano Ortega o Migueli, en un equipo entrenado por César Luis Menotti primero y Terry Venables después. El Barça ganó la Copa del Rey y la Copa de la Liga, pero quedó lejos en Liga, en medio de un entorno cada vez más enrarecido.
El momento que lo marcó todo llegó el 5 de mayo de 1984, en la final de Copa del Rey en el Santiago Bernabéu frente al Athletic Club. La batalla campal final, con Maradona lanzando patadas al aire rodeado de rivales, selló su destino. Aquella noche fue el punto final emocional de Maradona en Barcelona.
Poco después, el Barça decidió venderlo al Napoli, donde comenzaría la leyenda definitiva. Por eso esta camiseta no representa solo una temporada: representa el último Maradona “europeo” antes de convertirse en mito absoluto.
